If you’ve got an older bow or bay window, you know they can be both beautiful and problematic. Over time, their roofs can leak, frames can sag, and windows can become hard to open. Many Massachusetts homeowners assume the only option is to replace like-for-like — but at 12 Penny Exteriors, we love finding creative solutions.
On a recent project in Ayer, MA, our team helped a homeowner swap out a large bow window for something new. They didn’t want another bulky bow, but they also didn’t want to lose the deep sill space they loved for plants and seasonal décor. Our solution? What we call a “Box Bay” — a clean, modern configuration featuring casement windows and a large center picture window. It still extends off the house enough to give her a generous sill, but without the issues that often plague older bows and bays.
This project brightened the home’s exterior, brought in more natural light, simplified maintenance, and cost less than a traditional bow or bay replacement. Most importantly, our customer is thrilled with the result. See more images of this project featured HERE.
