The siding on your home is the first defense against the elements. It takes on rain, wind, snow, hail, scorching sun, and whatever else Mother Nature can throw at it. Not to mention the occasional errant baseball or hockey puck. We ask our siding to do a lot.
Like everything else these days, you have choices. Although there are other materials out there, we focus on three types of siding products best suited to New England homes: vinyl, fiber cement, and wood. With these choices, we’ve (literally!) got you covered.
VINYL SIDING
Whether you are looking for a standard clapboard look or would rather go with a more traditional shaker-style effect, vinyl siding has it all. Our partnership with Window Depot USA™ allows us to bring you very high quality vinyl siding from Royal Building Products. For over 50 years, Royal has been covering homes across America with an innovative approach to vinyl siding.
FIBER CEMENT SIDING
Rot-proof, bug-proof, virtually fire-proof, and unaffected by wind and cold, fiber cement siding has a lot of things going for it which is why it has become so popular as a siding replacement choice (you may know it by its popular brand name, Hardie Board) There are a wide array of colors to choose from, or it can be installed ‘primed’ only and you can choose to paint it any way you choose. You can mimic pretty much any style – clapboard, cedar shakes, board and batten – and it does a much better job of giving you that “wood look” than vinyl siding does.
WOOD SIDING
Before vinyl siding or fiber cement siding, there was wood siding. And if you are a traditionalist, there is nothing more timeless and beautiful than a home covered in real, authentic, wood siding. Let’s face it, all of the manufactured siding products have a similar goal: “to look like wood.” Be prepared, however, for regular maintenance with wood siding.

Vinyl siding doesn’t require a lot of maintenance, but there are some things you should keep an eye on.
Exterior remodeling: you have choices.
An exterior remodeling project brings with it many choices in terms of materials, styles, and price points. We believe you should be in control of those choices.
Partial Siding Replacement
It’s not always necessary to replace ALL the siding on your house at once! Sometimes tackling one or two sides of your home can be enough.
How do I know if I need new siding?
The siding on a house is like its skin – it not only looks good, but it protects the important structures underneath. When it starts to fail due to exposure to sun, rain, and fluctuation in temperatures, it may be time for replacement. Paul identifies some problems to look for on a house that’s due for new siding.
Spot the Rot
Sometimes the extent of damage to the exterior of your home can be hiding in plain sight – as was the case with this door frame. Snakes not pictured!!
