Vinyl Window Profile

Vinyl replacement windows sometimes differ from older window styles in how they sit on the outside of the house. If you are choosing vinyl, we want you to know what to expect!

If you are replacing an older style wood window, such as a classic colonial style with a sloped sill, we think it’s important for you to understand how a vinyl replacement window is going to differ in its profile on the outside of your house.  While some vinyl windows can replicate the look and feel of a wood window quite effectively on the inside of the house (for example check out the beautiful Aeris windows from ProVia), the look of the outside is going to differ quite a bit from what you have currently because of the way that vinyl windows are built.

If this difference isn’t going to be to your liking, you will probably need to consider a wood clad window from a company like Marvin or AndersenWood-clad windows have a vinyl material wrapping (cladding) the exterior parts so that you get the durability that vinyl can provide, but at their core they are made from wood and are built to replicate older wooden window styles such as a sloped-sill colonial.

Have a look in this short video to see the difference (3.5 min watch)
